Bone grafting is performed in some patients who are seeking a dental implant or restorative device. When there is insufficient bone structure in the location needed for the procedure, then Dr. Palani needs to take bone from somewhere else, most frequently from another area of the mouth when drilling. He suctions the bone fragments from one area and uses them to graft. Occasionally, cadaver bone fragments are also used. They are collected by bone banks and are a very safe source for donated bone.
