Dangers of Not Getting Bruxism Treated
If you have bruxism, you should get it treated immediately. This is a dental condition that cannot wait to receive care. That is because bruxism can do some real damage to the bones and teeth – damage that can result in enamel erosion, dental decay, and severe sensitivity.

What Is Bruxism?

Bruxism is a condition that is related to misalignment of the jaw. It often accompanies the symptoms associated with temporomandibular joint disorder or TMJ. Often, the patient clenches or grinds their teeth, which leads to wear of the teeth and erosion of the enamel. In fact, some people with the condition can wear down the teeth so they are no more than stubs. Therefore, if you do not have bruxism treated, you can experience severe erosion, recession, or decay.

How Is Bruxism Treated

Many patients who have bruxism are given a mouth guard at night to use. This goes a long way in reducing the severity of the problem. The night guard prevents the patient form grinding or clenching his or her teeth while they sleep. It also helps align the teeth, which supports better dental health. Therefore, the condition can improve significantly if a night guard is part of the treatment plant. Patients who have bruxism also are instructed on stress management, as anxiety triggers the clenching and grinding of teeth. Measures are taken to strengthen the teeth in one of various ways, include fluoride treatments or even implants.
